The famous “lipo,” also known as liposuction, is a highly sought-after and well-known surgery among women who want to reshape their abdomen and body by reducing localized fat.

In addition to the abdomen, liposuction can also be performed on other areas of the body such as the waist, upper and lower back, flanks, inner thighs, and even the arms.

The team uses saline solution and medication on the fat to be aspirated, and in the end, all incisions are closed and protected with a dressing, followed by a compression garment to reduce swelling. Liposuction lasts an average of 1 to 3 hours, depending on the case.

Varieties of liposuction

Liposculpture is a variation of liposuction where, in addition to the usual liposuction procedures, fat (known as fat grafting) removed from the patient is placed in other areas.

The most frequent area where fat is injected is the gluteal region (buttocks), but other areas can be addressed, such as localized depressions (congenital or resulting from previous surgeries), facial folds (nasolabial fold), and lips.

Post-surgery care

For the results to be more effective, the patient needs to invest in recovery and postoperative care. For example, the compression garment should be worn most of the time during the first month and should only be removed for bathing. In the second month, it should still be worn for 12 hours. Additionally, it is important to drink plenty of water to keep the body hydrated and adopt a healthy, balanced diet.

If possible, lymphatic drainage is also a good option to enhance results. It is important for the patient not to smoke for at least a month after the surgery and to avoid strenuous physical exercise. Sun exposure should also be avoided. Each case has its particularities, but by following these care guidelines, the patient has a better chance of a smooth recovery and healing.
