Just like silicone implants, mammoplasty is a breast surgery, with the difference that it can increase or reduce the size of this part of the body.

In the case of augmentation mammoplasty, the surgeon also makes incisions in the area to implant the prosthesis with the chosen shape, texture, and size.

In reduction mammoplasty, the surgeon makes incisions that start around the areola and go down to the mammary fold and horizontally, creating an inverted “T” shape.

After that, the mammary tissue is mobilized, and the excess breast tissue is reduced according to the patient's needs.

In addition to reducing or increasing the breasts, mammoplasty is also indicated for reconstructing breasts that have been damaged by accidents or removed due to cancer.

Before and after

As with other procedures, it is important to remember that the patient must be confident in their decision to undergo mammoplasty. Routine tests such as blood tests, electrocardiograms, and imaging exams like mammography and ultrasound should be performed, following all medical guidelines regarding fasting and hospitalization time.

After mammoplasty, the patient should take extra care during the postoperative phase, such as:

  • Wearing a surgical or support bra for 30 days;
  • Avoiding sleeping on the side for a month and not sleeping on the stomach;
  • Avoiding physical exercise for 90 days;
  • Not applying cream to the surgical incision;
  • Gently caring for hygiene and the stitches;
