A favorite among women who want to increase the volume and shape of their breasts, breast implants are a highly sought-after surgery in all plastic surgery clinics.
With epidural or general anesthesia, breast implant surgery lasts an average of two hours. During the procedure, the surgeon makes an incision in the inframammary fold or the armpit area. Usually, the inframammary fold option is the most used, considering the access to the area where the implant will be placed and hidden by the bra.
It is important to remember that the implant's position depends greatly on the patient's anatomy, but in a general context, there are two options: below the mammary gland (known as subglandular/subfascial) or below the pectoral muscle (submuscular).
In addition to routine preoperative exams, it is common for the surgeon to request complementary imaging exams such as breast ultrasound or mammography.
Before and after
Talking to the doctor and assessing the best shape, material, and size of the silicone implant is very important before surgery.
It is advisable to avoid medication and be in good physical and emotional health to undergo surgery, and even after the implant is in place, care must continue.
In the first month, for example, it is essential to avoid physical exertion with the arms. In other words, no gym or other strenuous physical exercises.
It is also important to wear a bra for 24 hours during the first month and avoid sleeping on the stomach, on top of the operated area. If you are a smoker, forget about smoking after the first month of surgery. Ignoring this recommendation affects the surgery's healing process and consequently the results.
It is also not advisable to sunbathe for a period of 2 to 3 months after the procedure. Even after this time, exposure can only be done if the scars are covered with white tape.
